Second Coming Christ

May 17, 2017

The Bible testifies about Christ who came to save us (John 5:39-40). The Bible prophesies that Jesus Christ will return to this earth a second time to lead God’s people to salvation (Hebrews 9:28). The World Mission Society Church of God believes Christ Ahnsahnghong is the Second Coming Christ because He came according to biblical prophecies.

Is Christ’s second coming the same as Judgment Day?

The Bible teaches us that Christ Jesus who came to the earth 2000 years ago, will come again, in the flesh, to restore all truths of the Bible and guide His people to salvation before the last judgment.

The Bible prophesies that at the time of the Last Judgment the Lord will appear with fire and judge the world:

Isaiah 66:15-16 “See, the Lord is coming with fire,
and his chariots are like a whirlwind;
he will bring down his anger with fury,
and his rebuke with flames of fire. For with fire and with his sword the Lord will execute judgment on all people, and many will be those slain by the Lord”.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 ” … and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

In the Old Testament and New Testament, it prophesies that God, who will appear as the Judge at the last day, will come with fire to judge the world.

However, when the Second Coming Christ comes, He appears in a different way and the purpose of His coming is also different.

Jesus Second Coming in the clouds

Let us understand what Jesus said about His second coming:

Matthew 24:30-31 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

When Jesus spoke about His second coming he prophesied he would come on the clouds, not with fire. His appearance is completely different from when he comes on the Last Judgement Day. And He says nothing about judgment and punishment when He comes a second time. Jesus only said He would gather his elect from the four winds for their salvation. In fact, the Bible says that there will be Jesus’ second coming before the Last Judgment.

Luke 21:27-28 “At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your head, because your redemption is drawing near”.

Thus, before the Last Judgment, Jesus comes a second time on the clouds. We must receive the Second Coming Christ before the Day of Judgment.

The meaning of the clouds on which Christ comes

Jesus coming a second time on the clouds is the same prophecy about the First Coming Christ.

Daniel 7:13-14 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”

Jesus is the Son of Man who, as Daniel saw in his vision, came with the clouds. In other words, Jesus came as a human being. He was born as a child, through Mary. Matthew, John, and Luke wrote in their books that Jesus received all authority (Matthew 28:18), glory (John 17:10) and a kingdom (Luke 22:29).

Two thousand years ago, in fulfillment of the Old Testament’s prophesy, Jesus came as a man—not on a literal cloud. So the Bible describes Jesus coming on a cloud because, in the Bible the word “cloud” represents people.

Some words in the Bible have multiple meanings. Besides representing actual clouds, the Bible uses the term “cloud” in another way.

Jude 1:12 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead.

Proverbs 25:14 (NCV) People who brag about gifts they never give are like clouds and wind that give no rain.

So we can see that sometimes the Bible compares “clouds” to “people”. Thus, the expression, Jesus’ coming with the clouds means His coming in the flesh.

Why does the Second Coming Christ have to come in the flesh?

Christ fulfilled His purpose of establishing the New Covenant and ascended back to heaven 2000 years ago. Afterward, people started to slowly change Christ’s teachings—being influenced by Roman culture and traditions. In AD 321, Roman Emperor Constantine changed the Sabbath Day on Saturday to Sunday. Then in AD 325, the Council of Nicaea abolished the Passover. This brought forth the beginning of the Dark Ages. Without keeping the truth of the new covenant while believing Christ, there is no promise of salvation (Jn. 6:53-54; James 2:17-19). For this reason, Jesus must return to revive all of the teachings of the Early Church.

Christ Ahnsahnghong is the Second Coming Christ because He fulfilled all the biblical prophecies. Christ Ahnsahnghong came in the flesh and restored all the truth of the New Covenant Jesus established 2000 years ago. And hence why the members of the Church of God believe He is the Second Coming Christ.
