Zion is the Only Place Where We Can Receive Salvation
November 17, 2020
Zion is a place where God bestows abundant blessings. Undoubtedly, most people are familiar with the word “Zion”, yet they interpret it based on their own judgment or general knowledge. For this reason, many people will seek refuge in God, however without understanding God’s providence they will unfortunately never find Him. Nevertheless, Zion is a place of salvation and we must correctly realise it through the words of God.
Physical vs. Spiritual Zion
The Bible mentions two types of Zions: the physical and the spiritual. Let’s understand the characteristics of each, one by one.
Physical Zion
The physical Zion is where the temple of Jerusalem was located. Built during the days of King Solomon, sacrifices were offered to God according to the law of Moses. For this reason, people sacrificed lambs or bulls as sin offerings at each feast. They made these sacrifices to escape plagues and be forgiven of their sins (Heb. 9:19-22; Ex. 12:5-14).
Hebrews 9:19-22 When Moses had proclaimed every command of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people. He said, “This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep.” In the same way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used in its ceremonies. In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
Spiritual Zion
The spiritual Zion indicates the true church that celebrates the feasts of the New Covenant according to the teachings of Jesus. To show that, the Bible testifies Zion is a place where God’s people keep God’s feasts (Isa. 33.20). However, the New Covenant came into effect once Jesus died on the cross. Furthermore, the old way of worshiping God through animal sacrifices was replaced with worshiping God in spirit and in truth.
John 4:23-24 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
Jesus mentions that God’s people must worship in spirit and in truth. This indicates that the Zion we must seek in the last days to receive salvation is the spiritual Zion.
God Pours Down Blessings in Zion
Those who remain faithful to God and obey His laws will receive the light of truth and the promise of salvation (Ps 50:22-23). In Zion, God will call them “[His] people” and will bless them with eternal life.
Psalms 132:13-16 For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying, “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it. I will bless her with abundant provisions…I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.
Isaiah 51:16 I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand—I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth, and who say to Zion, ‘You are my people.’”
God’s Feasts
According to the examples of Jesus Christ, we must celebrate the feasts of the New Covenant. Since Zion means the true church that celebrates God’s feasts, we must be familiar with what those feasts are.
The Weekly and Annual Feasts of God
The weekly feast refers to the Sabbath day celebrated on the seventh day of the week (Lev 23:2).
The annual feasts (seven feasts in three times) are the following:
- The Passover (Lev 23:4-5)
- The Feast of Unleavened Bread (Lev 23:6)
- The Day of Firstfruits (Ex. 34:22)
- The Feast of Weeks (Ex. 34:22)
- The Feast of Trumpets (Lev 23:24)
- The Day of Atonement (Lev. 23:27)
- The Feast of Tabernacles (Lev 23:34)
God Will Appear in Zion in the Last Days
God makes perfect those who find Him in Zion. Heb 12:22-24 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
Since God has chosen Zion as His dwelling place (Ps 132:13-14), He prophesied that He will appear in the flesh to rebuild Zion and save His people from impending disasters.
Micah 4:1-3 In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord…He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem….
Jeremiah 4:5-6 “Announce in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem and say: ‘Sound the trumpet throughout the land!’ Cry aloud and say: ‘Gather together! Let us flee to the fortified cities! Raise the signal to go to Zion! Flee for safety without delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, even terrible destruction.”
Indeed, how blessed are the people who are in Zion!
Salvation in Zion
We are now living in the last days and disasters are coming upon us. For this reason, we must recognise God’s true providence for His people. Without a doubt, the only church that keeps all of God’s feasts of the New Covenant according to Jesus Christ is the World Mission Society Church of God.
